Hospice truly provides a special kind of caring, embracing a compassionate and understanding concept of care. We provide comfort care for those with a terminal illness as well as lending emotional, spiritual and social support to their family and friends during the illness and grief period. What is Hospice Care? The philosophy of Hospice care is to relieve pain and other symptoms associated with advanced illness. Hospice provides medically directed, nurse coordinated care and support for the patient and family. Hospice seeks to help patients carry on an alert, pain-free life and to enhance their quality life. Whenever possible, Hospice provides palliative, pain and symptom management in the home for patients who wish to remain among family members. Who Benefits From Hospice? Hospice care is designed to benefit everyone - from the patient to family members and friends. We achieve this by first determining the needs of each individual served by the Hospice team, carefully assessing the available alternatives, and encouraging them to make decisions that will best meet their needs. How Are Referrals Made? Hospice care must be ordered by the patient's attending physician. However, referrals can be made by anyone. Patients, family members, friends, clergy, case managers, or other agencies can make a referral by calling: Hospice & Health Services, Inc. Where is Care Provided? The needs of most Hospice patients can best be met in the comfort and convenience of their own homes. However, should the Hospice team, the patient and the patient's family decide the patient's symptoms cannot be managed at home, he or she may be admitted to an inpatient setting, including assisted living and nursing homes. When Does Hospice Care Stop? Since coping with the death of a loved one can be especially difficult on those closest to the patient, Hospice continues to support family members in the year following the death by providing an emotional support network, including volunteers and support groups. How is Hospice Care Paid For? In most cases, Hospice costs are covered by the patient's health insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. In addition, under compensated care is covered through the Hospice & Health Services Memorial Fund. The Hospice & Health Services Memorial Fund accepts donations for uncovered services. No one is denied services based on an inability to pay. Credentials Hospice is Medicare/Medicaid certified by the Ohio Department of Health, licensed in the State of Ohio, and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
